Don't belive everything you read (LOL). Fitting 3.54:1 in an old LR that is still fitted with 2.25L eng is a BIG waste of time, engine DOES NOT have the power to pull the gear. Rover Motor Company of NA did a number of tests with gear ratios (no ODs aval then), 3.54:1 was all but useless. 4.2:1 from Rover 3-Litre (w/stic & OD) was a good comp., but only if tyres were of correct size, 7.50x16 / 235/85R16 are too large. Stick with 4.7:1 and fit OD.
