DESPERATE PLS HELP!!! Problem w/ 95 Disco alarm system

Posted by S. Fong on June 11, 1998 at 09:12:12:

I recently bought a 95 Discovery - so far no major problems EXCEPT
for the alarm. I live in Hong Kong, and I had the awful experience of
not being able to lock the doors using the remote control and thus causing the engine to be cut. Someone tells me it's due to interference and the problem will only occur in some parts of hong kong??? The first time it happened, I simply used the keys to lock the doors, only to find that the engine would subsequently be cut off when I tried to restart the car. I ended up paying more than US$100 just to have the car towed to another area where the alarm could then be successfully activated, and the engine restarted,

I contacted the LR service office in HK, they told me that the problem could be solved if I used the access code. Well i've tried but
it DOESN'T HELP!! The engine still can't be started once the alarm
is not successfully activated using the remote. Ended up paying for towing service again.I now live in constant fear that this problem will occur anytime, and am seriously considering getting rid of the LR.
So, if someone has the same problem like I'm having, I'd like to know:

1. Is it possible to get rid of the LR alarm system so that I only need to use the keys for locking the doors? I don't want the damn alarm!! it's causing more trouble than it's worth!!!!

2. How does the access code work?? I never got a good explanation from the LR guy here in Hong Kong.

PLS HELP IF YOU CAN ANSWER ANY OF MY QUESTIONS> I"M DESPERATE!!..

thank you
S Fong
