It's a regular rust victim. The remedy is to weld new bits in, but it's complex. It's a good sign if the greasy side of the vehicle is very black and oily. You can't stop them leaking oil like the Torrey Canyon, but this has the advantage of rustproofing the underneath! I've seen 1992 RRs that have had all their oil leaks cured and the bottom jet washed regularly and the result is bad surface corrosion of everything under the vehicle. The vehicle will rock slightly on the handbrake, but this is normal due to the handbrake being applied to the differential, not the wheels and the whole drivetrain moves slightly. I've just bought a 1973 RR, so keep in touch nd we can swap stories as my restoration continues.
