Note that hot cast iron engine blocks & exhaust manifolds hate an
instant cold shower. Normally exhaust manifold fails first.
So a deep dive is best taken with an engine which has just
been started up, so relatively cold, but warm enough to minimise
stalling risk.
I have seen a Discovery block which developed an almost fatal sheer,
engine block functioned (a compliment after such harsh treatment),
but was later to be exchanged for a new one.
It was told that the hard working fully warm and hot engine was
suddenly and completely dipped in a deep cold water fording.
