R380 Kit replacing LT77

Posted by Cees Willig on May 24, 1998 at 13:01:55:

Currently our Landrover 110 Stationwagon LHD, 1983 is about to
receive its Mid-Life Upgrade (MLU). Originally V8+4speed LT95 in
1994 upgraded to 200Tdi+(second hand) LT77+LT230T.
LT230T no. is 28D154486D, 1:1.222 ex. Discovery, 5th gear used for
solo only, at 2200 rpm/ 99 km/hour it consumes 8 litre/100km in summer
and about 9 l/100km in winter.
Gearbox's covered well over 250000 km. Bell housing is FRC9865, like
all 4 cyl. petrol, 2.25 d, 2.5d, and which was in LR conversion kit.
We are faced with conversion queries: to summarise it:
LT77 for 200Tdi is formally STC1007N (New) and - E (Exchange).
this is no longer available, supersession officially STC1786N,
which turns out to be Kit R380.
Gearbox delivered is FTC4502, which is official supersession of
STC1786N.
However, this FTC4502 is 14 cm too long: original LT77+bell housing
is 49.5 cm (19.5 inch) with clutch slave cyl. position on left side,
delivered is 63.5 cm (25 inch) with slave cyl. pos. right hand side.
and bell housing identical to 300Tdi.
50A series gearbox (2.5 diesel, etc., note difference in gear ratios)
is STC1549N.
Who has experience and can advice us of the right conversion kit no.
Does Kit R380 fit straight away in 4 cyl seatbase (MTC6340) and
tunnel panel MTC4095?
Anything to be changed on prop shaft lenghts?
Any pitfalls on transfer case matching?
Thanks in advance.
