I see no way of this happening, without your foot being flat on the throttle, as the throttle butterfly wouldn't be open, thus all you would get is an awful lot of fuel going into the inlet, and very little air, thus flooding the engine and cutting it out......
'miasapplication of feet' as someone else put it sounds most plasible...
Sorry, My own thoughts and opinions...

Correct me if I'm wrong MG but isn't the V8 still controlled by a cable from pedal to inlet? (as opposed to wire?) Missed out on 'Thor' developments.
Only run away cars we hear about over here in UK, are driven by 'old dears' mis-using the pedals! No offence!
