Winching, lack of power, winch cut out

Posted by Kobus Burger on May 17, 1998 at 21:39:16:

I have trouble in getting my winch fully operational. The winch cuts out under heavy load. It make that familiar "click" sound, when a vehicle's battery is flat and do not want to start.
It only winches for a couple of metre's and then cuts out or loses it's power. It is a 3 tonne Warne winch, brand new. Could it be the battery or alternator. What kind of battery do you recommend, amps strength? What should the alternators output be in amps.

I need the info/help/suggestions urgently, as I will be a participant in the RHINO CHARGE, Cross Country fund raising event in Kenya, from 28 May - 1 June '98.
The vehicle is a "Cross-breed", with a 2,300cc Isuzu petrol engine.

Thanks and best regards,
