Have to disagree with Mark about portable winches, this is totally impracticable for recovering 2 tonne Land Rovers. If you need to use the winch the truck is upto its axles in mud, and so are you, to open the rear door and carry a winch weighing 20 kgs plus and plonk it on the front or back of the vehicle and make all the connections with mud or water and rocks or at dusk or night ........
