Matthew - I must admit, I too pondered (my husband called it waffling)on the purchase of a new Discovery. I have had the pleasure of owning an '88 Range Rover for some time and when it became clear that I would be vehicle-less for yet another snow fall (my husband loves my Rangie) I began a two year quest for a stable-mate. I am state-side, and have owned a JEEP, and have tested the majority of our offerings, including the new M-B, Dodge Durango, '98 Big-Block Grand Cherokee and the new Lexus 300. I have admittedly a sore spot for Landies, but the competition had some good points... until we went on a Land-Rover driving "experience" at the Equinox in Vermont, USA...after a few hours seeing just what an "out of the box" Discovery could do was in a word, amazing. End of story, we bought a new Discovery three weeks ago. (Matthew, if such a Land Rover appreciation-driving course is available to you, do it!!) They may not be as popular in New Hampshire as in your parts, but in my humble opinion, a Land Rover is the only choice. Best of luck... and happy 'Rovering!
