"...the tyres are rated 'load range D' - should I add on another few psi to allow for this?"

Off the cuff I would say No.
That said, I cannot truly remember all the Load Range information, but would not be suprised to find that "D" is standard for this weight of car.
Dunlop have a site at http://www.dunloptire.com/tires/Rover_rt.html which will give you lots of information EXCEPT recommended pressures for your useage.

As your tyre is apparently a truck tyre, for Light Industrial Use, different tyre pressures could apply, as the construction may be different, and I would suggest you enquire of the tyre company. For this enquiry you would need to know the axle weight.
If you ask the tyre company for pressure recommendations of a standard fit tyre, they will avoid the issue, and tell you to "follow the vehicle manufacturers recommendations".
this is just so there is not a public disagreement between the companies.
I was a little surprised to see you quoting 225/75/16, I would have expected 235/70/16, but I don't think it is critical in this regard. I will say that I am not familiar with the Dunlop Radial Rover R/T's, but I still think my advice is valid.
For more reading on Tires, and RR generally, go to John Brabyn's pages at http://www.rangerovers.net for the Front Page, or http://www.rangerovers.net/rrtires.htm for tire info. Search on the page for Dunlop and you will find comments on your chosen tire, and a link that I have already given.
You could always try mailing John B himself, he has used your sort of tire.

BTW, look on the Bushducks sites for Mechanic recommendations, or archive search this site. Rovers North is your site of last chance, re either the question or an archive search.
When you find good mech, don't forget to tell Bushducks, the site won't work without feedback.
Give a little as well as take a little.

David.
