Looking at buying Land Rover

This past weekend, we took out and fell in love with a 1988 Land
Rover. It has 102K miles and we are concerned about purchasing a
high milage vehicle. I e-mailed a couple of people selling their
older Rovers for advice on high milage expenses. The Rover is in
okay body shape (it looks like it is 15 years old rather than ten)
but drove wonderfully. I would be interest in hearing back from
people with older Rovers what to look for and what expenses might be
expected. Our other car, a 1990 Legend has 140K and no repairs so
far and I didn't know if we might expect the same thing from a Rover.
It would be my wife's car and only driven under 1000 miles per month.
Also my wife asked if the main noise we heard (almost like riding
in a jet aircraft) is common in the Rovers. Thanks in advance,
