re 300 tdi timing belt failure

Posted by nev on July 31, 2000 at 07:29:02:

As some one has already said belts are to be checked from 40,000 km. Yoe should check for fibres in the front cover drain aperture.A buuletin was sent to all dealers telling them which kit to fit, depending on the vin and the km's that the vehicle has travelled.I am currently seeing several instances of failure during normal servicing of my customers Land Rovers.
The major kit includes front cover, pulleys, crankcase vent housing and injection pump support bracket.
The minor kit includes pulleys only, a new seal must be fitted when fitting this kit as well as modifications to the front cover. This kit is to fitted to vehicles which have not had premature failures but show signs of wear on the front belt face at normal replacement intervals eg 100,000 km.
