I have experienced numerous "strandings" with my 96 Discovery, where it frequently
refuses to start, always during the coldest months of the winter. I had purchased
the Discovery assuming that it would be a durable and dependable vehicle, particularly
since my wife has a disabling medical condition that requires frequent treatments at a
hospital emergency room.

My vehicle has been towed to the Land Rover dealer several times, and I've managed to
get it there myself sometimes (after several hours of trying to start it). After my last
visit, the Service Manager told me not to drive it "when it's too cold outside". I couldn't
believe my ears, and proceeded to call the LRNA Customer Service number. Land Rover responded
by offering to "buy me out" of the vehicle. Unfortunately, this appears to have been a ploy to
use up what is left of my warranty time (my warranty should expire before the next cold season).
Land Rover did make an offer, but it was no better than what I could get by trading my Discovery
in at the dealer, and negotiating a price on a new one. I continued to go back and forth with
Land Rover, since they indicated that they would be willing to negotiate the final price. In
reality, they never budged off their original offer.

Since I have been experiencing this problem since I purchased the vehicle, I suspected that I had
some recourse under my state's Lemon Law. The dealership threatened that if I even mentioned the
word "lemon" that Land Rover would cut off all negotiations with me. Unfortunately, the best word
I can use to describe my Discovery is "lemon", so I'm off to see my attorney and will pursue legal
action against Land Rover.

I'm so amazed that a company that sells itself as the premiere sport utility marque does not
stand behind it's product. I encourage anyone with similar problems to contact me.
