Don't know anything 'bout mechanic, I just monkey my spanners following advice from manuals..., so be careful w/my advice:
On my 200tdi (don't know about yours), when changing timing belt, I put a twisted drill of 9,5mm (?) into the oval hole in the sprocket and into the pump (as stated in Haynes).
->Check Haynes manual for your engine, guess it would be IN PRINCIPLE similar for yours.
->Factory Manual will state a special tool, but would give an idea of what would suit.
