I hope you solved the problem by now but I had once a similar experience with a chevy van parked on a steep hill. I just put it on park and when I wanted to go away I couldn't get the shifter out of park. A couple of friends tried to push the van up hill and then I could shift the handle. It was in the chevy handbook too, that you should put it on the emerency brake before parking on a steep hill. I got a 1984 90 v8 but with a manual trans so I don't have the experience with my LR.
