overheated

Posted by Brian '84, 110 on July 14, 2000 at 11:15:57:

i was driving my 110 recently (2.25 petrol) and failed to realize my alternator bolts had loosened, thus relieving all the tension on the belt. as a result, the bad boy overheated like a mo-fo! i mean it got HOT! so hot in fact, that the gas was pre-igniting and it was missing/sputtering/stuttering before i realized what had happened. anyway, i had to pull over several times, let it cool down a bit, and limp it back home (about 10 miles) due to the fact i had left my toolbox in the garage.
subsequent start-ups have eased any fears i have done any damage to the engine, (at least up until now anyway) but i was wondering other than changing the oil (mobile 1 fully syn.) and replacing the radiator fluids if there were any 'other things' you guys recommend i change/look at.

as always- thanks in advance!
brian
