I bought my '86 RR three years ago. She was leaking a little bit from one of the swivels. I started using 85-W140 and now I find even less leakage. When there is oil into the swivel housing the seal and outer part of swivel housing is well lubricated - there is no rust there. The bearings of the wheels are well lubricated too. It is simply to change oil into swivels when there is any water ingress. My conclusion is:
when you often go off-road
- if it is possible use oil into the swivels
- if the swivel leaks a bit use higher grade oil ...-140
- if there is great leakage use grease mixed with oil but when there is possibility (bearings, halfshafts, etc. repaired) put new seal and go back for oil.
when you never or rarely go off-road
- use ...-90 oil and than use LR's thick oil/grease (to expancive for me if I have to change it two, three or four times for a half of the year)
