Lawrance,
Don't be fooled by all the ads in the sporty magazines.
As well as the conical filters you see there, K&N also do filters that will fit inside most standard air boxes. Visit the K&N site as advised. You may find you need size details of your standard filter. Compared to the standard installation a K&N is a good filter, but a poor silencer, which is another reason for not going "conical". Put a K&N in the standard airbox and the airbox will give 90% of the standard silencing effect, ie you will only notice a bit of additional intake roar at maximum power.
The K&N will cope with the adverse conditions described by Michael as well as the standard filter, but read and follow the instructions about re-oiling when used in dusty conditions. Use of the snorkel, as Michael advises will obviate even that problem. your conditions of use, now or in the future, may not be the same as Michael describes, so check the stae of your standard filter before deciding whether or not to add the snorkel. I always thing the Disco snorkels look quite neat, the way they are moulded to the body.
Personally, I would have no doubts about fitting a K&N in the standard airbox in any vehicle, and it's good to see a Disco II owner prepared to get under the bonnet, well done.
(That is not meant to be patronising, treat as a compliment, please).
David.
