Ign timing just doesn't "slip", there is a reason it has moved. Points wear (on the heel) will always cause a chnage in ign timing a few degree. When points set correctly (.015" gap) and timing set at say 6-btdc, it will stay... until points wear enough to close gap, at which point the timing will be retarted. Re-gapping points to .015" will bring it back to 6 degrees. However, of the mech adv unit has checked out, you or your shop will have NO IDEA as to where the adv in when seeting the timing (it may be advanced fully at idea when you check it one time & then adjust, then retarded next time you check.. thus lines don't line up). Check adv unit and keep it lubed (oil under rotor). If bush is not lubed it will wear and shaft will wobble & in the end damage the cap. MG
