My 1987 4 speed auto box Range Rover has developed a louder than usual whine. The car has always had a whine from the gear train but it is getting louder since a rapid of 1200kms on Russian roads. Sound is worse on over run (throttle off) My question is where do I start looking. A friends RR, same year has similar whine but much less noticeable - gearbox, transfer box, axles...how best to check and what to look for. Any particular bearing or gear wears first? Car has only covered 75,000 miles but most of them hard work. Vehicle does a lot of off road work.
