Disco - can't remove Disco shock absorber

Hi all,
Last weekend I was strugling with a front shock absorber on my disco and failed to undo the nut on top of the turret. No amount of WD40 could make it move. The flat grip section on the threaded spindle became rounded in the process. Will I need to remove the turret together with the shock, split the nut or there's still a better way which I'm not aware of. Your suggestions will be most welcome.
