Landrover Disco, A.K.A. Landrover Lemon

Posted by walter chantler on April 08, 1998 at 21:28:27:

I am the unfortunate owner of a '95 Landrover Discovery. I bought the vehicle used at a Honda Dealership in November of '97. The vehicle was in beautiful condition with only 19,000 miles! The warranty was still in effect until April of '98. To make a long story short, my Discovery has been in the shop 7 times (not a typo) since November. I have only owned the vehicle for 6 months! This vehicle has left me stranded twice. One time I took a vacation to Colorado and the vehicle would not start because it was not equipped with a cold start kit! A $35,000 4x4 vehicle that does not start when it gets cold. Is this rediculous or what? Landrover paid to have the vehicle towed back to Arizona and installed the kit for free, but it still ruined my vacation. Here is a list of problems that my vehicle has had.
-blown power steering hose
-popping noise in the front end due to some sort of bushing problem
-rough idle (this still hasn't been fixed)
-cracked dash board
-peeling of the dashboard in the corner on the driver's side
-2 broken door pockets (cheap plastic?)
-leaking windshield
-exhaust has come loose 3 times
-dead battery (This one I wasn't too upset about)
-clicking noise during idle (cam button replaced twice along with timing gear and chain)
-cruise control switch broken (there was also a recall on a fuse related to this switch)
-stitching came loose on passenger seat
-oil leaks (oil pan and rocker covers)

I may have missed a couple of items, but this is ridiculous! I have made several complaints to the local L.R. Dealership and have made complaints with The Landrover Company using the 1-800 number. My vehicle runs out of warranty next week and I am afraid to drive it after that day. I have tried to get Landrover to agree to extend the warranty because this vehicle is obviously a lemon. So far, no luck. The next time that my vehicle needs service and I have to pay for it... I'm going to be one irate individual. Look for me on the news carrying a sign in front of the Landrover Dealership warning all of those interested in buying a Discovery to think twice.

Please let me know if you have a similar story, or any ideas on how to get Landrover's attention
