I have a 94 defender that has been running erratic since water / mud splashed on the engine. My check engine light is on with error code 44 for o2 sensor. This is the second time this has happened, the first when I first got the d90 and degreased/washed the engine. To remedy the problem the first time I misted water into the intake while the engine was running to clean the o2 sensor and that fixed the problem. Now that it has happened again I want to know what it is that gets wet that causes the engine trouble and o2 sensor problem.
