| Synthetic oil in Series 3 gearbox Posted by Barry Benson on December 27, 1999 at 16:16:31: I have rebuilt a S3 gearbox and fitted it to a Perkins 4-182 in my SIIA. It is a much improved machine and tows like a train. I recently read of the use of synthetic gear oil in SIIA/3 boxes to prolong life if used with a more powerful engine than the original 2.25 petrol or diesel. Has anyone any comments or experience of this. If so what oil and what happened. Any help greatly appreciated as the box is very heavy and the longer I can persuade it to stay alive the less I have to heave it about.
