Poor radio performance

My 96 Disco with factory radio/cassette/cd has terrible reception. The sound on cassettes and CD
is fine, but it has terrible AM/FM reception. It sounds like an antenna problem to me but my
dealer says antenna no problem. They said the onlyfix is a new head. My factory antenna has loose
slip joints which heightens my concern about the antenna. A local car audio shop said there is a
dual antenna. It also said I can't just buy a new head because I will lose the CD. This seems like something
I should be able to get better information on. I would like to start by replacing the retractable
antenna with a solid whip. Is there any magic to that on a Disco? And what is the story about a dual
antenna?
