Well sounds like this has not really changed.
Our 110 Stationwagon of 1983 leaked since first exposure to rain.
First it was the roof, cured by dealer.
Suspect are the ventilation flaps under front windscreen.
Originally indicator relay was mounted such that it did not drain water exposure coming down middle section, occasionally indicators gracefully degraded to nil performance at severe thunderstorms.
Currently there is still one leak somewhere waiting to be discovered.
So at least the vehicle will keep one's brain well trained.
Most important thing is that water is drained to avoid caches of water and subsequent problems.
Currently our 200Tdi+R380 upgraded 110 has developed a squeeking sound when changing gear & at overrun. Original Valeo clutch (renewed at 120k because broken diaphragm spring, currently just 60 000 km's driven) is suspect: spring damper inner ring vs. outer ring of clutch plate. I was informed in UK that Borg & Beck is a superior replacement clutch, keeps squeeks & rattles out of gearbox.

Note, however, that I do remember someone after going to great lengths managed to get his Defender 110 leak free, hence I thought the newer Defender 110's were less sensitive.
Best Regards, Merry Xmas & Happy New Year.
