need new gas tank due to crack please advise

the dealer says they found my fuel odor and it is a cracked fuel tank
on the upper side of the tank. they have not seen it yet but said the
tool used detected fums from that area. the dealer wants 750.00 to replace the tank and said it could not be fixed. any help please
