Hi Robin

Just seen your message. I'm in the middle of such a conversion at the moment on my S3 but the engine compartments are basically the same. I've never done a job as big as this before and I'm learning the hard way!
I don't know where your v8 came from but they are all basically the same, starting from your own Buick block in the early 60's right through to the range rover. My engine is out of a 1984 Rover sd1 saloon.
What you'll need to do is:
Widen the bulkhead to approx 25 in. This brings it over to just next to the steering box on one side and the equiv. distance on the other.
Get a conversion ring which goes between the gearbox and the engine and allows them to mate together.
Different engine mounts needed.
Exhaust pipe conversion which joins up to the second bit of the 3 piece exhaust.
Oil filter conversion, either a remote unit or one which takes the filter up and away from the front axle.
Alternator conversion which brings the alternator up to the top left or right front of the engine.
Range rover manifolds will be needed to take the exhaust. These are the ones where the outlets point downwards.
As you say it's a very common conversion over here because of all the engines available and quite a few people supply the conversion parts. If you want any further info just let me know.
