If you are thinking of importing a Land Rover into the United States then you should know that there 3 agencies that have laws that must be complied with. Department of Transportation or DOT, Enviromental Protection Agency EPA, and U.S. Customs. The cut off year is 1972, All Land Rovers have serial numbers on the frams that will say in what year they were made. the duty is up to 25% on vehicles made in england and higher for spain (santana). After 1972 the vehicle must meet EPA and DOT specs for the year. It must come into a bonded car shop and be converted and inspected before it is imported, it costs many thousands of dollars depending on the year and what has to be done. You CAN NOT take it apart and ship it in to the U.S. and reassembly it, any one who tells you it can be done is a fool, as always some people do not get caught, but if they do and many have it will cost you the vehicle and tens of thousands in fines and leagle fees, and a conviction .
