I never meant to insult anyone by my original post. I simply made the comment, "The happiest days of a Land Rover owner's life is the day he buys it and the day he sells it." Judging from the emails that I have recieved (people who did not wish to post a message) I am not the only person who feels this way. I conceed that some people just like Rovers regardless of their quarks and problems. That is fine. Honestly, I expected more out of a $39.5k vehicle that it turned out to be. Hell, it was fun to drive it and it was nice to be one of the few on the road to have one. But, in light of the economy (people are overall doing well) and Mercedes M-class (even though they are ugly), you see many more M-class' out on the road than you do Rovers. I submit to you that it is because the general concensus of the population is that Land Rovers are a poor value because of resale and depreciation. That is the point I have been trying to make. It wasn't about Volvo vs. Land Rover (until someone else brought it up), it was about smart investing vs. Land Rover. Example, I paid almost $40,000 for my Discovery. I sold it with less than 73,000 miles and all service for $14,250 (a little under fair market value at the time) plus I put an extra $1200 worth of work into it to make the new owner happy. I lost $26,450 over a two and a half year period, not including the gas that it drank and the outrageous insurance (partly because I live in a state where someone was awarded $5 million dollars for a bad paint job on a BMW and tort reform is nowhere in sight). Now does a Land Rover sound like a good investment? No.
