There was a lot of discussion on this very subject on one of the lists some time ago. The general consensus was, the slave had to be shifted to the other side of the bracket. I dont think anyone actually came up with the reason why things didnt work properly after the rebuild, but there were at least a 1/2 dozen or so s.3 owners that had the problem.
