Smoky 300Tdi ? Posted by John H on October 12, 1999 at 13:14:32: I have an 18 mnth old 300 Tdi with 18k miles on the clock. The warranty runs out in a year. The question I have is this : .......what is a smoky diesel ? I see this in lots of LR mags and recomended to avoid these when buying. My 300 pushes out a lot of smoke when I accelerate hard after some gentle driving along level roads. If I accelerate hard this way a few times it seems to clear. At first though the smoke is a real thick black cloud. It does'nt ( yet ) seem to put out smoke on a long run, I do use it around town a lot and on quite a few short runs. Is this something to woryy about and get sorted out under dealer warranty or not. I have phoned the workshop manager at LR Bexley Kent UK and he reckons that it is normal and when a ' guff ' of air is blasted through the exhauast system it clears all the little carbon particles out ( why should they be there in the first place ? ). I am naturally suspicious and would'nt mind the advice from this group ( more trustworthy methinks !! >:- )) Tia John H
