It is true that Rovers leak more than US cars -- most European vehicles seem to be leak-prone.
One easy anwser is silicone rubber sealer in place of gaskets. US makers have been using this in production for a while. It works well, its cheap, and I highly recomend it. I had leaking valve cover gaskets on my '94. They were replaced one under warranty. They failed again 1 year later. They are rubber, but a poor design. I used silicone rubber, and so far, so good.
