They were produced by the Rover Company of England as a post was stop gap. The original prototype was built on a Jeep chassis. Extensive use was made of Aluminium as steel was hard to get in post was Britain but aircraft grade Aluminium was abundant. The early vehicles were even painted in "cockpit green" paint wnich I guess was cheap. In Australia they are relatively common but in the US and Canada they are relatively rare.
