The car is an Ex-Norwegian Mil spec'ed car. It's what they call a mobilisation vehicle, means it's kept in readiness in case of the occasional war. For the most part it's been stored indoors and taken out for a spin once every year or so. Interior trim is very good, which normally would show up after a lot of use. It's one out of 500 sold just this spring due to the cars being replaced with Mercedes G's (Their loss, not ours). Some of the SIIIs had as little as 5000Ks on the clock and were in absolutely pristine condition.

Regarding jumping out of 2nd, it can be kept in under braking by applying the pressure of one finger only. I take this to mean that the detent spring has gone.

There might be salvation in the near future. The cars have Mil spec gearing (very low). A company in Norway may well come up with a cheap option to refit all the gears (I hope) or alternatively (I hope not)refit the diffs with higher ratios for better highway performance.

A will file a follow-up when I know what to do with the gearbox.
