94 Disco Dealer problems etc...

Posted by Louis Adamich on December 12, 1997 at 07:08:42:

I have been having problems with my Disco and the Dealership and
thought I would post for some advice. This may get long but bare
with me.

I recently leased a 94 disco (about 5 months ago) with 11,000 miles
on it. I had several problems with the vehicle that I brought to
the dealers attention. One was rust on the doors, which they
repainted. The other was more serious. The vehicle would not go
into low. No matter how much I pushed on that darn lever. Anyway...
The dealer fixed the transmission problems for me and this is where
the real problems start. I had been happy with the dealership until
then.

They did indeed fix the transmission problem but when the vehicle was
returned to me the carpet was replaced crooked, the glove box would
not open, the AC leaked water, and the vehicle was making a lot of
noise.

I was most concerned about the noise comming from underneath the
vehicle. I returned the vehicle to the dealer thinking that the
repair was done incorrectly to the transmission, informed them of
the problems, and waited for a phone call.

They called me back and said the valve covers were leaking ( I didn't
complain about any dripping oil) and the noise was comming from a
cracked exhaust manifold on the left of the vehicle. That will be
1200 dollars US please.

I asked the simple question. "Did you guys do something to the
exhaust when you worked on the tranny because it wasn't leaking
before?" Absolutely not they replied and asked me what I wanted
to do. Not having a spare 1200 floating around I took the vehicle
to another shop. The other shop said "somebody banged the heck out
of the exhaust on the left side and broke it". I called Land Rover
of North America and Customer Cares. They asked me to go back to
the dealership and speak to them.

At the dealership I told them what the mechanic had told me and they
said "We do not want to provide you with service for your vehicle,
please leave".

At this point Land Rover of North America has said that there is
nothing they can or will do and the dealership refuses me service.

Any suggestions?
