Vehicles are babied in the States compared to what they are put through elsewhere. There seems to be a lot of problems with the Discos up through the '96s. From reading all the comments on the Rovers North board, the build quality on the '97 model year improved SIGNIFICANTLY. Of course, many people have pre '97 Discos without any problems, but on the whole, they seem to have much more than their share of problems. The cork gasket thing is true. I think I remember reading on the RN board about LR offering neoprene gasket replacements. I would not hesitate to have an independent mechanic look at the vehicle before you buy it. DON'T RUSH INTO IT!! There are plenty for sale, so take your time to find the right one. I don't know what kind of warranty is left on that vehicle, but make sure there is something. You don't want to get 30 days out and then start finding a lot of problems. Ask about the sunroofs, if they are the "new" type. There was a tech bulletin about leaking/rattling sunroofs and many people have had them replaced free. Here is an address of Alldata. They list recalls and technical service bulletins for vehicles. Why don't you check it out and see what applies to the Disco. http://www.alldata.com/ Good luck; Greg Haugen
