I am also concerned about all the messages etc. that have been posted on the LR corrosion issue. The founder of this site Bill Wood also had problems with his D-110 which kinda scared me. However, another LRX regular "Simon" put it into perspective for me. By the way, check out his 50th. LR celebration message on this site. His concept is the vehicles were designed and built for off-road use in deserts, woods, natural stuff. When you introduce road salt into the equation, the basic design criteria may fall short. So, what can you do? His reasoning is too take better care of the vehicle and make sure that the salt, etc. can not do any damage. I tend to agree with this philosophy as I have owned many cars over the years in salt heaven W.PA. without any rust problems. However, I have a heated garage with a drain, the vehicles are sprayed off after each outing, and basically kept up with wax etc. year round. It all boils down to how much effort you want to exert on your vehicles. No one has built and sold commercially a "rust free car" that I am aware of yet. Just don't be fooled into the aluminum body deal and think all your exterior maintenance troubles are over. Hope this helped a little. I truely enjoy my 95 D-90 SW and am considering another LR with a few more conviences for my wife. Other than my 96 900SE V6 Saab, I would not own anything other than LR. Take care, Jim Thompson |
