TDI Disco with air-con query and reliability praise

Posted by Dave jackson on July 10, 1999 at 02:55:10:

Hi All
Can anyone explain to me why you should turn the air-con off if you are stuck in traffic for a long period or towing up a long, long hill.
I would have thought that the two electric fans, that come on when the air-con is switched on, helped as supplementry fans?
I have never had any cooling problems with my car even towing a caravan in Spain, but i keep reading about turning the air-con off when under load, why is this?
My car went in for a 12k service yesterday and once again no faults were found. In the 18k I have covered since owning the car all I have had is brake pads, wiper blades and the original exhaust (car is a 1993) replaced. Best and most reliable car i have ever owned. In fact checking through its complete service history for its 66k life it has never had any major faults or breakdowns, only serviceable parts replaced!

Dave

Ps I hope i have'nt just tempted fate!!!
