Carbon Monoxide In Cabin of 91 Discovery

Posted by Ray on November 17, 1997 at 19:59:10:

I have a 3 door 91 Discovery that has done 115,000 km (including a lot
of bush work) with few problems other than the usual English stuff
(exhaust pipe falling off the manifold at 8000km, the front seat tilt
mechanisms both collapsing at 90,000km, the sun visor breaking after
20,000 km, the handbrake lever breaking after 40,000km etc). It chews
up a lot of fuel, but is well engineered and overall a pretty
good vehicle. The problem that has now developed is that I am getting
a lot of exhaust fumes in the cabin, although the exhaust system looks
fine. I think that the problem is the rear door seals letting in the
fumes that swirl behind the car. Has anybody had this experience and
know what to do about it (without it costing the usual arm & a leg).
I make that last comment because new tilt mechanisms would have cost
around $1600 for the parts alone - I had them rewelded for $100.
