Hi One obvious way to clean up a Land Rover is to use LPG. Of course you can't get it in the Simpson Desert but it is available almost every where else. It does take up some space b ut dies give a very clean engine AND considerable benefits in economy. I have a 6 cylinder 1978 ex-army LR (among others) and it runs very well on LPG. It does about 15mpg but as the gas is only half the cost that is equivalent to doing 30mpg. It does about the same on petrol and is very slightly more powerful. I had it tuned on a dyno by a bloke who really knows gas and Land Rovers and I am very happy with it. He said it was extremely clean - several times lower than the required levels of emission for the current vehicles. I have also seen that it is not terribly smart to use ULP without a cat as the ULP contains high levels of benzine. I am open to correction onthis point. good luck on your eternal search for the perfect Land Rover. I've had 19 and I'm still searching Michael PS You might like to look in on my home page?
