Maybe the reson for all this decay with your LR is because you are not looking after it properly?
All the driving on highways in North America in wintertime, with all that salt, is of course going to rust the LR. Many parts of the states and Canada have winters that are so long, it can ruin any vehicle if it isnt cleaned down well every now and then. Again, these vehicles were designed to roam across farmland in Britain, ride across deserts and mountains in Africa, basically, be off-road, were there is no salt.

High-powered spray of the underside of the veicle, lubrication, and cleaning off of any flaky areas and tretment can make all the difference for the north american highway user.
