Bonnet lacks supports but read on

From what I recall reading / seeing - the TD5 bonnet does lack the supporting struts that the TDI bonnets have. However, what I don't know is how strong the bonnet is without them. If I were you I would rivet some checker plate [ideally on the inside] or similar to strengthen the bonnet and then fit the bonnet mounted wheel attachment to the now reinforced bonnet. You don't want to risk the wheel bending the non-reinforced bonnet such that it hits / rests on the engine. Hope this helps some. Other option might be to try and raise the bonnet such that the OE supports can be fitted (may not be easy tho).
