Simon I hope your enthusiasm lasts. I too was a loyal landrover fan untill my recent dealings with the firm. They go great as long as they go if you catch my drift. I am just more than a bit wary about the standard of quality control they seem happy with at the moment. I have my vehicle primarily to tow caravan & boat, & transport Great danes but most importantly to get to the bits of Africa that are worth getting to. My recent experiences of bad build quality, and the shared tales of other owners frankly makes not only your hair stand on end, but your hackles rise in anger at the way landrover treats the unsuspecting public. I am talking about details such as gearbox failure, diff failure, brake problems, not such a problem for your friend with a Porsche on the highway. Try a duff gearbox coming down the hill from Lesotho in your new LR. Or the box giving up on the way home from the Namib. I'm afraid that LR are trading on a myth invented by their PR department and the joke of the camel trophy. With the kind of back up facility that the camel takes I bet you could almost do the trip in a mini. Which reminds me. Why do the camel men paint their Landys yellow? ..........Because they know they're driving lemons.
