Compression Check? / Electrical Problem

Posted by Brian Rook on May 25, 1999 at 16:15:15:

I have a 1984 Defender 110, 2.25, 65,000

When I remove the spark plug wires on the spark plug closest to the front of the grille the performance of the car is not affected AT ALL. Upon removing the other 3 spark plug wires the performance is seriously impaired. I switched the wires making sure it was not a bad wire. I replaced all 4 spark plugs too. Neither of the two helped.

Is a compression check the next thing I need?
If the compression is bad, what are the underlying implications of this? (i.e. bad distrubitor, bad valve, cylinder screwed etc.?)
Does this adversely affect the other 3 valves?

MY SECOND PROBLEM:
When driving down the road or sitting at a standstill the HORN and LEFT BLINKER have a tendency to not work. Sometimes they work PERFECTLY fine. Other times, they do not work AT ALL. Sometimes it's as if they slowly die- getting dimmer and dimmer (or quieter and quieter) until either (or both) simply quit working. However, the right blinker has NEVER had any problems. Werid, huh?
Any ideas on this one?

As always- much thanks in advance,
Brian
