WARNING, MoT after 1 year in the UK for 12 seater 110 LR Posted by John H on May 21, 1999 at 11:31:02: This for the UK only really. Some time ago ( December 1998 ) I tried all the agencies I could to see whether I needed an MoT for a 1997 110 12 seat Defender. These people had'nt a clue; Police, DVLA, Insurance company ( NFU ), Dealer. Eventually phoned a DoT garage in Purfleet Essex and was told the vehicle was ' Dual Purpose' and therefore did'nt need the MoT except at 3 years old ( ie normal time span ). I was also told that as it only had 6 forward facing seats they only tested these, therfore not really a 12 seater !! Yesterday the dreaded Tax disc renewal form arrives, lo & behold some moron now decides I do need to obtain an MoT. Phoned DoT garage again, told no you don't but to ring MoT Scheme Management at Bristol UK and double check. Oh yes sir you do need a certificate simply because it has 12 seats. Why was I advised I did'nt and allowed to drive ( illegally ) around for two months. It seems not even our wonderfull government likes Land Rover owners. How about we start a Land Rovers against the Government movement >:-)) Beware, double check anything official in the UK it will probably reqire the opposite. John H
