Hi jim,

The Freelander is being launched so Land Rover can attack the very lucrative Sports utility market, being dominated by the Suzuki Vitara and Toyota RAV4. The Freelander however, as well as look incredibly sexy and sporty, with all the body styling add-ons etc, will infact be a fairly capable off-roader. Off course not up to the standard of a Disco or Defender, but certainly miles ahead of the Toyota and Suzuki. The intended market for these vehicles is not for off-road use anyhow. The project was originally named CB40 and started way back in 1994, before BMW came along. BMW did make sure that quality control on these vehicles was top notch, and with the leading-edge technolgy being used in its manufacture and innovative design, it should prove to be a very popular vehicle, at least, in the UK market initially. there is a five-door hardtop, and a two door softop available.

That's all I know at the moment, hope it helps.

Regards

Simon
