Are the rear axle of a 90 and a earlyRR the same?

I like to swap my rear axle for a RR rear axle because off the disc brakes. I am told it is a direkt swap, but I got a few questions.
Will the rear axle brake too hard, will it lock up before the front axle?
Are except for the brake all other part interchangable? I like to have the halveshafts and diff for spares.
What about the front axle? I just broke my right front halveshaft.
It didn't like full V8 power in low 1 and braking to get up an axle twisting hill.
