Land Rovers are the best!

I have recently purchased a 95 Disco, my first LR! Most of you know this already, but these vehicles are just awesome. I have rented Jeeps, a Jimmy, Blazer, Explorer and Bronco in the past couple of years and taken them on moderate off-road conditions. Then I took my Disco out on similiar/worse conditions. Wow! The Disco beats everything hands down – amazing. I have been really annoyed with the ignorant and biased American auto 'experts' (ha!) that review sport utes for the mags. They always seem to put them (Discos) down, but boy are they ever wrong! Most of these guys dont even know what these vehicles are about. For anyone thinking of buying a Disco, here are some issues the auto press seem to have: 1. The Discovery is very slow to accelerate. Well buddy, this is not a sports car. You want speed, buy a Porsche! Off-roading is not about going fast, and accelerating quickly, otherwise you would bury the vehicle in mud. Torque is more important here. Disco has plenty of that! 2. It's quite high off the ground to climb in to. What! i couldn't believe I read that one! ever heard of ground clearance required for climbing over rocks. 3. It's very tippy when on road compared to, say, a Jeep Cherokee. Again buddy, you want to take corners quick – buy a Porsche! The Jeep was designed as an on-road vehicle with off-road capability. The Discovery was designed as an off-road vehicle with on-road capability. There are other complaints about them, but not even worth mentioning here. If anyone is wondering about buying one – heres my advice: If you want to just drive the kids to the mall, or tear around the city great speeds racing other delinquents at the stop light, don't bother looking at a Land Rover, buy a Blazer. If, however, you want one of the most capable, unstoppable off-road vehicles in the world, and will actually use it off-road, then nothing else will come even close to a Land Rover. if you want to buy a vehicle for the little logo stuck on it to drive around the city, then you're sad! But whatever you do, don't even consider a GMC Jimmy, they are so crappy I could not believe it! A final note. I think it very irresponsible of Chrysler/Jeep with the advertising of the new Grand Cherokee with the bigger engine. Firstly, I see no reason to have what they say is an off-road vehicle, go extremely fast. As mentioned earlier, off-roading is not usually about speed, but careful thought and planning as to your exact route, so as to avoid vehicle damage, and more importantly, damage to the environment. Tread Lightly is about promoting respect for the environment, encouraging carefully considered action when on a trail, so as not to damage the ground any more than neccessay, or scare wildlife. The new Jeep campaign hardly considers this philosphy with slam-your-foot-on-the-gas-and-watch-it-go attitude. Well anyway, those Jeeps wouldn't be able to go half of the places i'm thinking of (and driving) anyhow! well, i had to get that out of my system – see you in the mud! :-)
