No central diff into Disco II Td5 drive line? Sorry if I am wrong but in my opinion this car still uses the transfer box with lockable differential.
Rechipping Td5 for more power? In my way not good idea. Great torque - the same for Disco and Defender - and enough power even for Defender. In one place I would wait for some experiences about Td5 - this need time.
BFG 255/85 R16 for Defender Td5? Great tires but aren't they to big? If no, I would apply 8.25 R16 Michelin XS for sand terrain. But yes - BFG AllTerrain or even Mud Terrain are better on-road than XS.
